Markets Served - Transportation

Efficient data management within transportation agencies is key to successful transportation facilities. Geonetics works with transportation providers around the world to develop applications that improve operations and maintenance.

Geonetics' experience in application development for large roadway projects, airports, and harbors spans from bringing new facilities on-line to improving existing operations. Geonetics' solutions help transportation agencies move goods and people efficiently and safely.

Projects Include:

  • Enterprise Transportation Information System for Highway Departments and DOTs

Geonetics developed an enterprise, web-based application for tracking all phases of the transportation lifecycle including project design, forecasting, budgeting, advertising, invoicing, payments and general accounting. The system is fully integrated with an agency’s GIS system to show where work is being scheduled and performed. Enterprise reporting tools have also been integrated to produce standard and ad hoc reports.

  • Electronic Document Routing and Submittal

Geonetics developed an enterprise document management application that provides web-based tools for managing every step of a document’s lifecycle, from initiation and intermediate approvals to final approval and submittal. The system supports routing of individual documents or “packages” of multiple documents to authorized staff member, their proxies, or groups, At each stage the document may be approved and forwarded, rejected and returned, rerouted, or suspended. The system was designed to submit final approved documents via an electronic document gateway. All business rules effecting document lifecycle are fully configurable to meet the needs of a wide variety of document management workflows.

  • Enterprise GIS Implementation

This multi-year project involved the design and integration of an enterprise transportation GIS system. This system includes a comprehensive network and Linear Referencing System (LRS) to support federal HPMS reporting, pavement management, crash data, traffic volume, asset management and many other critical business functions for MassHighway. This project involved extensive custom coding of an advanced editing tool sets that allows users to edit the road network and maintain consistency with their data and business rules.

  • HPMS Reporting System

Geonetics developed a set of HPMS reporting tools that greatly improve a DOT’s ability to generate their yearly HPMS submittal. The system integrates with the agency’s GIS and accelerates reporting by leveraging a more efficient linear referencing system (LRS)-based data model as well as the capabilities of the ArcGIS geodatabase.

  • HPMS Curve and Grade Processors

Geonetics has developed several utility programs that generate curve and grade information from roadway geometry in a GIS database. Using the ArcObjects geometry processing classes and custom-built geometry processing function, points of inflection and curvature classes of each mile of roadway may be generated. A digital terrain model (DTM) is used in a similar way to programmatically generate grade values.

  • Crash Data Project

Geonetics crash data management and reporting solution includes a sophisticated custom geo-coding engine that takes raw incident reports and locates a crash on the angency’s enterprise GIS. Crash data can be analyzed together with road condition, pavement, signage, etc., stored in the agency’s GIS or externally and reported using a number of flexible interfaces including OLAP tools and map-based reporting. The system utilizes an ArcGIS server-based back-end processor for all spatial operations and map generation. Tools are implemented with a variety of technologies including desktop applications and a browser-based user interface.

  • RIDOT

Geonetics developed an ArcGIS Server-based project mapping component that may be easily and flexibly incorporated into a wide range of desktop or web-based applications. Project staff may use the application to interactively enter project location and information. Projects may be entered as points, lines, or areas and may be referenced to a linear referencing system (LRS). Once entered, project location information is available for mapping, reporting, and analysis.
